The typical rush to “get in shape” with vigorous exercise in January is always tempting in the wake of the overindulgent, underactive holiday season, but it is NOT the answer. In fact, it can do more harm than good.  If you’re going to start a running program, be extra careful as it will be dark, cold and wet and your body will likely not be ready for this. Skiing? Potentially great exercise, but most people do not properly condition their bodies for such an aggressive activity at 8,000 feet in the cold. The gym?  We’ve all braved the crowded gym in January. If you’re a regular gym rat, you’re frustrated because your favorite treadmill, elliptical or stationary machine is occupied with the New Year’s resolution crowd. And for those of you who have not been to the gym in a while, injuries and extreme soreness often discourage you from maintaining the willpower to keep it going.
Furthermore, if you go on a “diet” at the same time as resuming a vigorous exercise program, you may put your health at a greater risk coming off a period marked with poor eating and drinking habits and low physical activity. To make matters worse, if you don’t first injure yourself or catch the latest bug, you may shock your metabolic rhythm as you increase exercise and cut back on eating and possibly even gain weight. Unfortunately, this may result in discouragement causing you to quit exercising while consoling yourself with comfort food.  Sorry if this sounds all too familiar and depressing, but please know there is hope.

As a chiropractic doctor for over 25 years, I’ve seen this cycle repeat year after year as I’ve cared for thousands of patients coming to my offices in January physically broken down and discouraged. Of course, their pain and dysfunction is only a symptom of a deeper problem, frequently related to a broken lifestyle of poor nutrition, slumping posture and a general lack of fitness.  These problems tend to go hand and hand, and because most people see their nutritional habits go from average to horrible during the holiday season, I’ve found that poor nutrition-related pain is often at the core of most problem we see in the early part the year.  Poor nutrition habits result in a toxic system, with an associated acidic pH, leading to a general weakening of the body, with high inflammation levels leaving us vulnerable to injury, illness and depression.  All avoidable with a proper December health strategy and nutrition game plan.
WHY SHOULD I PLAN NOW?
Let’s emphasize the key word – PLAN.  We have all heard it said that ‘Failure to plan is planning to fail!’.  I know it is extremely difficult to start a health regimen in December with all the activities and parties that are planned. Follow this basic holiday plan to maintain your health and finish your year strong:
  • Daily breathing exercises and prayer to minimize stress and to reduce harmful cortisol (stress hormone) levels in your blood!
  • Serve those in need to help reduce stress, prevent the holiday blues and keep things in perspective.
  • Keep on exercising!  We’re big fans of maintaining during this time of year so you can healthily ramp it up in January.
  • Try to moderate your consumption of comfort foods, sweets and alcohol to the extent your family and social circles will allow.  Drink 100 ounces of water per day to help detoxify!
  • PLAN your New Year’s “Nutritional Renewal.” That’s right.  PLAN, and get ready to start after  the holiday hustle and bustle is finished.
PLAN A “RENEWAL” NOT A “RESOLUTION”
First of all, let’s look at the difference in the words themselves.  “Renewal” is an action. Actions become habits, which are more likely to be sustainable.   “Resolution” is only a decision, not an action and by itself won’t become a habit.
Now, let’s look at how you can PLAN your Nutritional Health Renewal and how this action, based on science, can result in sustainable, life-changing habits—a vastly different approach than the popular weight-loss diets, hearsay, bad advice and deprivation. We offer a better way to make “getting in shape” fun, effective and SUSTAINABLE, rather than the endless programs that discourage us with fleeting outcomes resulting in yet another failed new year’s resolution.
NUTRITIONAL HEALTH RENEWAL™
Combine the best, natural, organic whole-food (vs. synthetic) supplements to compliment healthy food intake with doctor oversight and coaching (practical advice, monitoring of your progress and help with specific course corrections as needed). With our program you will feel and function so much better, and by the time the next holiday season rolls around the “temptations” will not even appeal to you. TRUE AND LASTING RENEWAL!
MUCH MORE THAN JUST WEIGHT LOSS
Feel better. Be Healthier. Live longer.   You might just lose a few pounds too!
I don’t want to downplay how effective this program is for losing weight, because it is! We frequently have patients lose 15 to 30 pounds in three months and keep it off!  I want to emphasize weight loss is only one of many benefits that also includes: reduction of inflammation, pain, and stiffness; gut health and reconditioning; blood sugar balancing; hormone reboot and stress support; healthy aging and vitality; and reduced cravings for unhealthy foods
.

Our team has helped guide hundreds of people through nutritional renewal, and we would love to help you experience REWEWAL as well!  To learn more about our amazing program, call us at 916-933-7022 or visit www.Renewal916.com and be sure to watch our introductory video and order a free 16-page booklet.
